Mineral resources reflect the prosperity of a nation and play a major role in industrial and economic development of the country. Mineral resources are essential to our modern society and they are used everywhere. Rajasthan holds a high position in the national mineral wealth. The state is endowed with a rich variety of mineral resources due to its varied geological setup. The state is blessed with 79 varieties of minerals, of which 58 are being commercially exploited. State has virtual monopoly in the production of many minerals like Wollastonite, Lead-Zinc ore, Calcite, Gypsum, Rock phosphate, Ochre, Silver, Marble, Sandstone and Serpentine (Green Marble) etc. The mineral sector activities in the state have contributed significantly in socio-economic development of the state. On one hand the mineral sector activity is contributing huge revenue to the state government, same time on the other hand, it is providing regular employment opportunities to the rural population. The present book provides a broad introduction to the mineral wealth of Rajasthan.
