Scientific Survey of the Yogic Poses
Kaivalyadhama
This survey of the field of Asanas is by no means complete. We have mapped out only the most important landmarks. For exhaustive information on some of the points touched in this endeavour we refer our readers to our article on the Rationale of Yogic Poses in Yoga-Mimamsa, Vol. II & III. In this survey we have taken into account the four additional exercises described in the fifth chapter of the book, “ASANAS – by Swami Kuvalayananda (Bombay: Popular Prakashan, pp. 113- 132, 1964)”, although these exercises cannot be called Asanas technically. In fact the presentation in this book is a scientific study of all the practices contained in the Full Course (Vide Appendix I) except the three breathing exercises of Ujjayi, Kapalabhati and Bhastrika, which have already been scientifically evaluated in our handbook ‘Pranayama’.
